At the UOS Ecosystem Conference on December 20, Liu Wenhuan, General Manager of UnionTech Software Technology Co., Ltd., formally announced the company’s new 2023 strategy and released a free usage license for the UOS V20 server operating system.
The Free-License Version
Version differences: the free-license version has every feature available, only without commercial after-sales support. It still gets patches for update and upgrade alongside the commercial release.
Two chip architectures are currently supported: AMD64 / ARM64.

Answering the CentOS Discontinuation Challenge
CentOS stopping updates to become Red Hat’s upstream is something you’ve surely heard by now. This free license for UnionTech’s UOS Server V20 is aimed squarely at that challenge.
What UnionTech opened up under this free license is their mature commercial version. The most widely used CentOS today is CentOS 7, on kernel 3.10; UOS V20 ships the far more advanced 4.19 kernel, and product quality beats the community edition.
This freely licensed version is essentially the commercial product minus the support — which matters a great deal for building their own open source ecosystem. Here’s hoping domestic open source operating systems keep getting better.
