On May 27, the well-known game company EA (Electronic Arts) made a splash on GitHub, open-sourcing part of the source code of two games in the Command & Conquer series! The two games are: Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert.
The Command & Conquer series is the flagship work of Westwood Studios. In 1998, EA acquired Westwood.
Speaking of Red Alert, those born in the 80s and 90s are probably most familiar with “Red Alert 2: Yuri’s Revenge.” Strictly speaking, Yuri’s Revenge is only a mod of Red Alert, and not even an official one. But many players may think Yuri’s Revenge is the original game — it’s actually a popular mod made by a long-disappeared genius in China, Lord Hero, based on Red Alert 2. Even the author couldn’t have imagined how many domestic players it would influence, to the point that many think the official version of Red Alert is Yuri’s Revenge.
The Red Alert that EA open-sourced this time is the first-generation Red Alert, officially released on October 31, 1996.

This open-sourcing does not involve game assets or the game engine, only the source code of TiberianDawn.DLL and RedAlert.dll, allowing the mod community to better change game behavior. On June 5, remastered versions of these two games were released.
The Command & Conquer series games are implemented in C++, with very clean code and clear comments — impressive.
