The site’s filing hasn’t come through yet, so let’s talk about PageRank and Baidu weight.
What is Google PR? It’s PageRank — how important a page is, graded from 0 to 10. The higher it is, the more important your site is considered and the higher you rank. People used to care a lot about PR, and rightly so — but Google has retreated to Hong Kong now, and everyone around here only knows Baidu and rarely uses Google.
What is Baidu weight, then? It’s not official. Baidu the company has no such thing as “Baidu weight” and doesn’t acknowledge it. It’s computed by third parties from your keywords and rankings.
The way to raise PR is link exchanges. Does Baidu weight pass through links too? Hard to say — nobody knows Baidu’s algorithm, so who would claim otherwise? Having friend links is still better than not having them.
Rather than running around swapping links to maintain that PR, you’re better off making good content. Baidu ranks by click volume too: more clicks from other people pushes your ranking up, and your Baidu weight rises with it.
Content is king; optimize on top of that. If you want instant results, go back to sleep — nothing gets done well in one shot. It has to be cultivated slowly. I’m planning to update this blog every day, calm down, and make progress gradually.
